ABOUT WOMEN UNITED

Women United is a group of energetic, passionate, and philanthropic women empowered by the United Way of the Greater Capital Region (UWGCR) to make a true impact in our community. Our many and diverse experiences moving through the world as women informs how we mobilize change to invest in, advocate for, and host events with a mission to drive equity and excellence for all women.

OUR FOCUS IN 2023

In 2023, Women United is focusing on organizations that address women’s rights, center women’s experiences, and look at the social determinants of health that affect women and/or children in the Capital Region. We recognize that women experience the health, education, and economic systems differently. The pandemic exacerbated existing racial and gender inequities in the U.S. economy, hitting women, especially women of color, the hardest. Women have experienced all the net job loss since the pandemic began.  While men have recovered their net job loss, women are still missing 100,000 jobs. Black women and Latinas in the first half of July experienced increases in food insufficiency, children’s food insufficiency, and in the share that was behind on rent. Women and their families also continue to struggle to find and afford childcare—which makes it more difficult for women to work. (National Women’s Law Center August Fact Sheet) ALICE research indicates that children add significant expense to a family budget, so it is not surprising that many families with children in New York State live below the ALICE Threshold, especially those with a single parent. 75% of single female-headed households are below the ALICE threshold according to the 2020 ALICE report

THE GRANT

The selected agency funded as the 2022 Perfect Pitch grantee will be the Women United Premier Partner in 2023 for the duration of one year. This means that in addition to the $10,000 provided through this grant, this agency will receive additional support from Women United such as in-kind contributions, volunteer support, and other means that would be useful to this organization.
